Salesforce has closed its acquisition of Fin, the company formerly known as Intercom, bringing an AI customer service agent with a 76% end-to-end resolution rate into the Agentforce portfolio.

Fin joins Salesforce with an established base of more than 30,000 customers and a proprietary model suite trained specifically for customer experience, rather than a general-purpose model adapted after the fact. It works across chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, voice and Slack, giving it a channel footprint that already matches how most support organizations actually operate.

The shape of the bet

The deal is notable less for the technology than for the shape of the bet it represents. Rather than building a single unified agent architecture from scratch, Salesforce is folding a fast-to-deploy, highly customizable agent into Agentforce's existing customer service line, giving the company two distinct paths to autonomous service instead of one. That is a meaningfully different integration strategy than a straight technology absorption, and it will take time to see whether the two product lines converge or continue running in parallel.

“The deal is notable less for the technology than for the shape of the bet it represents.”

It also consolidates two category leaders under one roof: the agent with the highest publicly cited resolution rate in customer service meets the CRM platform with the largest market share in the category. For enterprises already running Salesforce, this closes a gap that previously sent them shopping outside the ecosystem for best-in-class service automation.

Worth watching over the next few quarters is how fast, and how completely, the two product lines actually merge, and what that means for customers who adopted Fin specifically because it was not Salesforce.
